That makes quick recovery more important, not less.
If you've stopped in an emergency area or on the hard shoulder, you're relatively safe: stay behind the barrier and call us with your junction number and direction of travel (the blue marker posts every 100 metres help pinpoint you). If you've stopped in a live lane, put your hazards on, call 999 first, and then call us.
Where a live-lane recovery is needed we work with National Highways traffic officers. Once your vehicle is loaded, we take it off the motorway to your garage, your home, or anywhere else you choose.
